India launched an anti-dumping investigation into glass fibre imports from China, Thailand, and Bahrain.

However, the duty is intended to protect the native industry from cheap imports. The trade ministry's investigation arm, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), is looking into the suspected dumping of glass fibres and their products that originate in or are exported from these nations.

"On the basis of the duly substantiated written application filed by the applicant and having reached satisfaction based on the prima facie evidence uploaded by the applicant concerning the dumping of the product, the Authority, hereby, initiates an anti-dumping investigation," according to a notification from the DGTR.

Countries conduct anti-dumping investigations to see if domestic industries are losing revenue as a result of an increase in low-cost imports.

As a countermeasure, they place these requirements under the international jurisdiction of the Geneva-based World Trade Organization (WTO). The responsibility is to ensure fair trading practices and to level the playing field between home manufacturers and international producers and exporters.
